I'm very excited about the Greinke trade. This gives the Royals some great defensive prospects to go along with their great hitters. I can really see the plan coming together.
Sometimes I wonder about Soria. I wonder if the Royals view Tim Collins as the heir apparent to the closer's role. We'll see. Unlike Zack, I don't think Soria is desperately wanting out of KC. So I hope they can keep him. I think he is worth it.
Sometimes I daydream about him closing out a World Series Championship for the Royals in 2014.
Good. I'm glad you like the Greinke trade. We need all the Royals fans to stay positive after that. I remember watching their home opener last year and it might as well have been Greinke day with the Cy Young given to him that day and the manager, GM, and owner basically singing his praises the whole time.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I don't see Escobar being much better than Yuniesky Bettancourt, but I'm not an authority on that matter either. I generally like getting a talented hitter (Smoak for Cliff Lee, CarGo for Holliday, CarGo for Haren, LaPorta for Sabathia) rather than a fielder in these types of deals. That said, only CarGo has worked out, and one of those teams messed him up.
I guess the closest thing to this trade is the Teixeira deal. The Rangers didn't have to move him by any means, but netted a solid arm and a good defensive shortstop. Of course that deal helped the Rangers get to your dream scenario...
ReplyDeleteThe Royals are stockpiling quite an impressive bunch of youngsters! If their fortunes change with these prospects, I'll be happy. As a Jays fan & also a...not particularly tall person, I hope that Tiny Tim Collins does well. He was a favourite prospect for a lot of fans up here.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly enough it sounds like the Royals were trying to go all in on a big name player like Montero!
ReplyDeleteIn the end it sounds like they chose cheap, controllable commodities with intermediate upside. I guess it makes sense when they're building a portfolio of already high upside, lower minors players.
