Goose Joak Originals: Some Teams I Haven't Posted Yet

Starting with the Montreal Expos...I mean...Washington Nationals:

Lastings Milledge, Washington Nationals
by Goose Joak

Gotta love the all out effort on this card. Bend ya knees, Lastings!

John Lannan, Washington Nationals
by Goose Joak

At least he's not married to "Yoko Omo"...

Matt Cain, San Francisco Giants
by Goose Joak

Cain...if he can ever get the BB/9 down a bit, this guy could put up absurd numbers.

Kevin Frandsen, San Francisco Giants
by Goose Joak

A legend for many reasons. Maybe someday I'll post my youtube monologue about him.

Rafael Betancourt, Cleveland Indians
by Goose Joak

Not sure what happened to Betancourt last year. In 2007 he was outstanding:

1.47 ERA
0.76 WHIP
9+ K/9
8+ K/BB ratio

Ben Francisco, Cleveland Indians
by Goose Joak

Francisco looks like a beast. I hope he develops into the kind of player that he looks like he can be.

Kevin Youkilis, Boston Red Sox
by Goose Joak

Baseball is my favorite hobby. But as much as I loved baseball prior to 2007, it cannot compare to how much I love it now. And I owe so much of it to this man, this...lumberjack, Kevin Youkilis.

LUMBERJACK

To me and my wife, he's the ultimate baseball villian -- the kind you love to root against. The kind you despise...

...

...but can't turn away from when he's up to bat. He's the kind I secretly respect because of how good he is, even how he plays the game (a grinder) -- but he's the kind you have to hate, because he will always break your heart if you're rooting for the other team.

It's nothing personal -- I'm sure Youkilis is a very nice guy and not the serial killing lumberjack that he looks like -- so it's easy to have some light hearted fun with his persona. I mean, I would never boo him in person -- just among friends and family who are in on the joke. One, out of respect, and two, out of fear for my life.

But in all seriousness, baseball is a better place with guys like Kevin Youkilis in it. Even if they are axe-wielding villians with an upper body mass that is 90% of their entire body.

This is my favorite card that I've done so far for Goose Joak Originals. I hope it's a fitting tribute to the man known to many as YOUK. Or, in one Lincoln household, the man known as LUMBERJACK.

Jason Bay, Boston Red Sox
by Goose Joak

A neat shot of Jason Bay, even if Boston is getting pasted by Tampa. I love how it says "Fenway Park" at the top.

Even though Bay fit right in with the Red Sox, here he looks kind of uncomfortable, like the new kid in class who's still a little self conscious.

Chone Figgins, Anaheim Angels
by Goose Joak

I defer to this post, Shawn Riggans.

Vladimir Guerrero, Anaheim Angels
by Goose Joak

Hall of Famer? Probably not yet. But if Jim Rice got in under the pretense of him being "feared" then you have to put Vladdy in under the same rationale.

IMPALER

Is he the most entertaining batter in baseball?

Nomar Garciaparra, Los Angeles Dodgers
by GCRL

Nomar! Almost as soon as he left Boston, Nomar fell on hard times. It's too bad. For a while he was one of my favorite players, even as far back as his days at Georgia Tech. But for some reason I lost interest after he was traded from the Red Sox. I'm not quite sure why.

Great card, by the way.

Joe Torre, Los Angeles Dodgers
by GCRL

Torre gets a Yoo-Hoo shower courtesy of his teammates. Nothing sweeter in baseball. A great, great card by GCRL. Again, among the early nominees for Goose Joak Original card of the year.

Comments

  1. The photos for Milledge and Bay are fantastic. I also like the Torre one, too.

  3. Youkilis is the most fun guy to watch in baseball. He never gives up on a play at the plate or in the field. Remember that play in the post season whre he went halfway into the outfield and threw out (I bekeive it was..) Vlad. That is the kind of plays he makes all year.

Oh and go ahead and boo him because nobody will be able to tell you are not saying YOOOOUUUUUKKK along with everyone else.

  4. I added a few names and a picture link to your request spreadsheet for a few I would like to see made.

  5. How can a guy like this

    http://www.youkskids.org/

    be a lumberjack?

Haha. Have you ever noticed how Youk is always sweating off the top of his helmet? It is disgusting.

  6. Funny thing about Ben Francisco looking like a beast…

I played alongside Benny, as we called him back then, on the East Hills Pony League all-star team (age 13-14) that went to the Pony World Series. Back then “Benny” was about 5’6” and 140 pounds soaking wet. He could always hit though. He hit a major growth spurt in high school.

It’s kind of a trip to watch him play in the big leagues now.

  8. Getting a big kick out of the commentary...

I'm happy that people are enjoying some of the new cards!

Adam - That's awesome! I'll definitely use these pictures. They'll be next on my list.

Voltaire - I'll be getting you a few templates to start out on if you want. Let me know if you have specific players or teams in mind.

  9. Ha! A serial killing lumberjack. He does look intense, and he's a hell of a player. Glad he's on my team!
