Tribute to 1991 Score - Joakim Soria

The best Royals closer since Jeff Montgomery. And maybe even a little better...

...which is great news for Royals fans, because Soria is signed by KC through 2011, and possibly even 2014 if the Royals exercise all three option years on the contract.

As I've mentioned, Soria is my favorite player in the game today.* I've followed him since his perfect game in the Mexican Winter leagues two years ago.

The card above is in the style of 1991 Score Dream Team, which is a phenomenal subset. It is one of my personal favorites. Along with 1991 Fleer Pro-Visions** and 1991 Donruss Elite Series, the Dream Team cards make 1991 an incredibly strong year for memorable subsets and inserts.

Hope you enjoy!***

* If there is a Joakim Soria bobblehead day @ Kauffman next year, can you guess who will be one of those in attendance? My wife has already pledged to take me!

** Thanks to Scott C. from Green Monster for the Pro-Visions image!

*** The Soria man-crush has the added bonus of giving zman40 of Autographed Cards more Royals to enjoy.****

**** That said, are there any other Royals you care to see, Z? Anybody's fair game. I have some Aviles, Soria and Greinke cards on the way.

  1. That's a really nice one. I loved the design and photo quality of '91 Score. Shame they printed like 900 billion cases of the stuff.

  2. You can never get enough Soria cards on here. This is another fine example of that. As for any other Royal, here is a challenge for you. Make a Mike Jacobs card with a bad airbrush job (like Topps did for so many years) so that he has on a Royals uniform. That sounds like fun, if you are up to the challenge.

  3. That sounds like a good challenge. I have taken a first stab...but not yet satisfied. I'll do some digging and see what I can come up with...

  4. I can't wait to see it. You could even make a late 60s, early 70s card where Topps would just have a head shot and they would cover up the hat logo.

  5. Love the Soria!! That was a great looking set to begin with!
