Tribute to 2007 Turkey Red - Eric Davis

I had a lot of fun with this one. I realize Eric Davis is a bit too close to the camera for a real Turkey Red card, but I liked the way this shot looked in the Turkey Red frame. So I'm sticking with it!

Most of you are aware that Davis was an absolute stat-stuffer. Not to be redundant, but I have to repeat these numbers myself just to believe them:

1986:
.277 AVG
.378 OBP
.523 SLG
80 SB, 88% success rate

1987:
.293 AVG
.399 OBP
.593 SLG
50 SB, 89% success rate

Hammer, please don't hurt 'em.

This card is part of the Goose Joak Reader Request series, specifically for JT at the Writer's Journey. JT is an awesome dude and does his own outstanding fun cards, which you can find a list of here. Definitely take a second to look at what he's got because it's very good! Especially if you like the Reds.

Comments

  1. He was three home runs away from becoming the first 40/40 player...THREE HOME RUNS AWAY! Great card, great player!

  3. Dude, very nice Davis card. Good job. Yeah, I can't believe he had 80 stolen bases one year. Who did he think he was, Vince Coleman? What an athlete.

  4. Thanks for the nice words guys! This card was really fun to make.

World's only 50-50 guy? Brady Anderson.*

    * So yeah, separate seasons, but he's still the only one...

Heh, the Vince Coleman comment is funny. I was admiring a 1989 Topps card of his the other day. He was a good player for a few years, with as many bases as he stole. I was surprised at how much he struck out for being a slash and burn style player.

Anybody still reading these comments, definitely check out Alex's blog, The Waiver Wire. The guy dropped xFIP on me today, so whatever he says from now on, I'm all ears!
